Mike Pelletier (b. 1978) is a Canadian artist based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. His practice is concerned with the ways in which the human body is captured and communicated. He employs a variety of production techniques including body scanning and motion capture in order to critique the representation of the body in art and culture. This critique examines the way dominant power structures have influenced aesthetic choices and pushed certain kinds of portraiture to the fore throughout history by combining contemporary and classical notions of representation and identity formation. Pelletier is interested in challenging the contemporary preoccupation with quantifying and essentializing the body.
Mike Pelletier has screened and presented his work internationally, including at Microwave International New Media Arts Festival, Hong Kong, 2016; Onedotzero screening, Resonate Festival, Belgrade, 2016; Ars Electronica, Linz, 2016; Nuit Blanche, Montreal, 2016; Artfutura festival, worldwide, 2015; Adrenaline, São Paulo, 2015; and the Goethe Institute, London, 2014. His work has been longlisted for the 2016 Lumen Prize and has received an honorary mention in Computer Animation for the Prix Ars Electronica 2016.
