Boris Labbé and Daniele Ghisi

French artist Boris Labbé and Italian composer Daniele Ghisi have worked collaboratively for several years. Their work examines and disrupts traditional and embedded iconography by combining new and old methods and technologies. Their immersive audiovisual works challenge and experiment with classical cinematic representation of time and space. Projects include Danse Macarbre (2013), Orogenesis (2016), and Any Road (2017).

Boris Labbé born 1987 in Lannemezan, France is a graphic and video artist and director who works mainly with animation and installation. In 2012, his project Kyrielle was awarded the Special Jury’s prize for Graduation Films at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival. He has collaborated with Sacrebleu Productions to direct two short films, Rhizome (2015) and La Chute (2017). In 2016, Rhizome won the Golden Nica award at Ars Electronica in Computer Animation/Film/VFX. His works have been exhibited internationally including at OK Center for Contemporary Art, Linz; Aichi Triennale, Nagoya; National Art Center, Tokyo; Cinémathèque Québécoise, Montréal and Erarta Museum of contemporary art, Saint Petersburg. He has shown work in more than a hundred international film festivals including Hiroshima Festival, Trickfilm Festival and Animafest.

Born in Italy in 1984, Daniele Ghisi is a composer and co-founder of /nu/thing, a composers’ collective whose activities are documented in the online blog. He studied Composition with Stefano Gervasoni and Mathematics at the University of Milano Bicocca. His works have been distributed by the publisher Casa Ricordi (Italy) since 2011. Ghisi has won several competitions and prizes (most recently the F. Donatoni prize and the Coupleux-Lassalle prize) and has been commissioned by French Ministry of Culture, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ircam, Royaumont, Grame, Radio France, Divertimento Ensemble, Milano Musica, Vortex Ensemble, and Festival PlayIt!
