Meena Chopra is an award winning internationally renowned Canadian 'poet & visual artist' with an unbridled passion for words, space, colours and forms. Born and brought up in Nainital, India, a Himalayan hill resort, Meena has lived in Mississauga since she came to Canada in 2003. In her early career, Meena became a qualified textile and garment designer and worked for seven years as a lead designer with the leading garment firms in New Delhi.
Meena later switched her creative pursuits to fine arts and writing poetry, while simultaneously pursuing her entrepreneurial instincts with a career in marketing, advertising and media. Meena was trained and mentored by the master artists and poets in New Delhi and has written poetry professionally since 1992 and practiced the visual arts since 1985. Driven by power of the abstract imagery, many a times her art and poetry blend into each other
Meena has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards for her contribution to fine art and literature which include 1st prize by ‘Visual Arts Mississauga’ in 2017 for excellence in her work for the juried show celebrating 150 years of Canada and the award by the National Ethnic Press Council of Canada, for her distinguished work in art and poetry and for her contribution in these fields. She has also been awarded for ‘Outstanding Service and Commitment to Diversity and Inclusiveness’ from Peel Community Connections, Canada.
