Satellite events
Detail from Bask by Snow Yunxue Fu
The work of Memo Akten and Benton C Bainbridge is presented as part of a group exhibition of digital art at Mana in the Wynwood art district from 5 to 8 December. The event is part of CADAF (The Contemporary and Digital Art Fair) and is presented by CADAF in partnership with Wynwood Business Improvement District.
Also in Wynwood from 2 to 8 December, Snow Yunxue Fu’s work Bask is on display at Artbox Projects. Bask is a 3D animation which explores the limitations of physical perception by looking at the sun. Satellite images of the sun, in particular that which cannot be usually seen with the human eye (the photosphere and the corona), are processed, then simulated using Maya particle simulation into a digitally processed image of the sun. This digital processing adds new resonances to our experiences of the enormous, unfathomable and sublime.

Elsewhere in Miami, Gordon Cheung is exhibiting works as part of the Untitled Art Fair, represented by Edel Assanti. Works including Electric Dreams and Vanishing Point will be on display from 4-8 December at Ocean Drive and 12th Street.
Art Basel
This year’s Art Basel Miami Beach returns to the Miami Beach Convention Centre. Key themes this year include climate change, the fiftieth anniversary of Stonewall, and digital privacy, freedom and repression.
Sculpture and video works by Guan Xiao will be on display at Miami Beach as part of the Nova sector, which showcases work created in the last three years. Guan will be represented by Antenna space in a dual exhibition with US ceramicist Allison Katz. Guan’s work, which combines found objects and imagery with otherworldly forms to create entities and narratives that are somewhat familiar, yet impossible to place, combine with Katz’s paintings and ceramics which are surreal dream sequences dotted with everyday motifs.
