born 1956 in Essen, Germany
works and lives in NYC since 1995
David Stern is a figurative painter, whose work is rooted in the European figurative tradition
and informed by American abstract expressionism.
His artistic career spans 30 + years and the main theme/motive of his work has
been the human condition.
With the advance of touch screen technology in 2007, Stern started to adapt the technology for his expressive drawings.
In 2002 he created the series "the gatherings", responding to the events of 9/11. These works are part of the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in NYC.
