As part of the sponsorship, the Sedition community will get special access to exclusive content created especially for our audience - this includes snippets of content from the book, interviews and VIP invites to promotional events of the tour. We’re also excited to feature Alisha on our social media channels and we’re looking forward to inviting her to an AMA session in the coming months. Last but not least, people who pre-order Alisha’s book will receive some goodies from Sedition - more information coming up shortly.
So who is Alisha, and why should you be excited? Well, buckle up - Alisha’s story is everything but mundane! In her own words, Alisha Fernandez Miranda is a Cuban American, Miami-born, Scotland-based writer, entrepreneur, ex-CEO and mom.
Alisha is a respected authority on women's empowerment, philanthropy and sustainability, She serves as Chair and former CEO of I.G. Advisors, an award-winning social impact intelligence agency that consults with the world's biggest non-profits, foundations, and corporations on their philanthropy and social initiatives. Her clients include The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The Ford Foundation, and UN Women. At the beginning of 2020, Alisha paused her high-powered career to pursue a series of internships on Broadway, with contemporary art dealer Blain, fitness studio Retroglow, and in the kitchen of the Kinloch Lodge.
In addition to My What If Year, Alisha is the author of the cookbook 50 Years: Kinloch Lodge. Her other writing has been featured in publications including Vogue, Romper, The Good Trade and Insider. She also hosts the award-winning podcast Quit Your Day Job. Sounds exciting? Wait for us to tell you about the book!
My What If Year is an exuberant, hilarious memoir about a woman who pauses her successful career for a year and explores the “What If” jobs of her dreams. Delightfully irreverent and hilarious from page one, My What If Year recounts the adventures of Alisha Fernandez Miranda, a successful Latinx CEO and mother of twins, who takes a sabbatical from her job to explore all the careers that she’s forever idealized.
Alisha becomes an intern at a Broadway theater, a London art gallery, a gourmet restaurant, and a fitness studio (teaching Zumba!). Despite the impending Covid-19 pandemic, these internships provided an opportunity for Alisha to ponder the long-buried question, “Why didn’t I do what I most wanted to do until now? What was stopping me?”. This tantalizing question has kept many of us awake at night - who has not considered what the road not traveled might have brought? Alisha’s story is our story - the almost tale, the might-have-been. A book for everyone who has ever dreamed of something different.
The main reason we’re excited to bring Alisha’s story to you here on Sedition, is because the London art gallery, where one of Alisha’s internships took place, was in fact the contemporary art gallery of Harry Blain, Chairman of Sedition and brother of Rory Blain, Sedition’s Director. Alisha will let you have an exclusive peek at the contemporary artworld, and share intimate experiences of working alongside the world’s greatest artists and most important fine art collectors.
We’re thrilled to have partnered with Alisha to help promote her launch and in the coming weeks we will be making more announcements about events, promotions, an interview with Alisha, and of course the exclusive Sedition perks available for pre-ordering Alisha’s book - so stay tuned!
