Throughout 2017 Sedition and Magnum Photos launch an international partnership in celebration of Magnum’s 70th anniversary. In Magnum at 70, Sedition launches a series of collections of iconic photographic and video works as digital editions created over the past 70 years by Magnum Photos artists. Alongside the online launch programme, Magnum Photos and Sedition will present a public programme of digital exhibitions, events and panel discussions.
Magnum at 70 will launch alongside a talk event as part of the Magnum Photos Now series on Friday 24 March at 7pm in The Barbican’s Frobisher Auditorium 1 in London. Digital Territories: Photography in the Online Environment is a panel discussion which focuses on how photography and digital space define one another. The panel comprises Sedition’s Director Rory Blain, Magnum’s Digital Director Anne Bourgeois-Vignon and Magnum photographer and David Alan Harvey, publisher of Burn Magazine. The discussion is chaired by Aaron Schuman (artist, writer, curator and editor).
The conversation will explore the online ‘life’ of photographic works and the merging of photographic practice and digital space. The panelists will look at what online photographic display means for photographers, publishers and consumers of photography, covering storage, communication networks and visual literacy.
The inaugural set of fifteen works in the Magnum at 70 collection will be released to coincide with this, including by photographers Werner Bischof, Martin Parr, Tim Hetherington and Dennis Stock.
Subsequent launches and events with Magnum Photos and Sedition will be presented throughout the year. Follow Magnum Photos on Sedition to keep up with news and updates.
