For the next month, the art world will transform Hong Kong during Hong Kong Art Month, Art Basel and Art Central 2018.

From 23 February to 24 March arts organisations around Hong Kong will open their doors to visitors from around the world, welcoming over 1700 international artists, while Hong Kong neighbourhoods including Wong Chuk Hang, Sham Shui Po and Fo Tan will become focal points for the visiting global art scene as local artists and galleries display their work. Meanwhile international galleries Hauser & Wirth, David Zwirner and Pace gallery each inaugurate new spaces within the brand new H Queens building.

One of the highlights of Art Month is the opening of a brand new international sculpture park. From 22 February to 11 April the Harbour Arts Sculpture Park will open to the public. During this time Hong Kong’s harbour will be home to sculptures by internationally acclaimed artists including Kacey Wong, Jenny Holzer, Ho Kwun Ting, Bosco Sodi, Yayoi Kusama, Michael Craig-Martinand Tracey Emin.

Art Basel takes place from 29-31 March, while Art Central runs from 26 March to 1 April. At Art Central, Sedition collectors may be interested to seek out a new project by Desmond Leung, whose work is on the platform. The Dawn of Inner Reality can be seen at Parkview Art’s booth E10. The piece combines traditional painting and Chinese ink techniques and materials with Virtual Reality technology. It explores the idea of an artificial superintelligence, a technological singularity which will completely transform human civilisation.

Art Basel this year features 248 galleries from 32 countries and territories, half of whom have spaces in Asia and Asia-Pacific. The fair is divided into sections, from Film (curated by Beijing Art Lab’s Li Zhenhua and in collaboration with Videotage) to Encounters, which presents large scale immersive installations, to the showcase of emerging talent in the Discoveries section. Fans and collectors of Yoko Ono’s work please note that her work is on show at Art Basel as part of Kabinett. Ono is represented at Kabinett by Galerie Lelong & Co. Visitors to Kabinett can also see a recreation of Kwok Mang-ho (aka Frog King)’s groundbreaking Frog King Calligraphy Shop.
